Pilates with the Bitches

This past Sunday, my friends Cori Sue Morris and Becca Loveridge, creators of Bitches Who Brunch, hosted a free yoga or Pilates class at Mint Wellness gym in downtown DC, along with One Medical Group.

The yoga class was filled up almost immediately, so my friend Emily and I signed up for Pilates.  It was Emily’s first time at an actual Pilates class.  She’s done Pilates sessions before at home watching Exercise TV, but there’s always a different atmosphere when you are out of the comfort of your own home and having a teacher there to make adjustments and push you further.  I also convinced my co-worker, Stacey, and a few of her friends to come as well.  It was Stacey’s first time taking Pilates in general so I was definitely interested in her opinion of it.

I have stopped going to my regular lunchtime Tuesdays/Thursday Pilates class near my office because ever since TR left, the replacements just haven’t been the same, so I was happy to be taking Pilates again.

Emily and I drove together, and were the last ones to arrive to class.  It was PACKED.  I was shocked at how many people came out for Pilates, and I thought that would be the smaller class!  Luckily they squeezed us in and class began.  It was similar to the other Pilates classes I have taken, but of course every instructor has their own style, so there were also parts that were different.  Since it was so crowded there was a little bit of bumping into your neighbor during certain exercises, but everyone was friendly and courteous, so it wasn’t a problem.  The girl in front of me and I actually rotated our arms and legs at alternating times to make sure we didn’t bump or get in each others’ way!  It was a great workout and I wanted to ask the instructor if she could come teach at the gym near my office!

Afterwards we were treated with a healthy brunch catered by Spilled Milk.  There was a raffle for three winners for spa and fitness packages, and we all got goody bags from One Medical.  The Bitches always are the best hosts and it was a great way to start the New Year on a healthy note!
